Health Education

Geraldine Primary School Health Programme 2024-2025

The Ministry of Education requires all schools to consult with their school community on the delivery of the Health Curriculum, including wellbeing. This was completed in 2023.

Geraldine Primary School will implement a programme of Health Education based on the New Zealand Curriculum in keeping with the schools charter and values. The focus of the programme will be to give our students the knowledge, skills and attitudes to maintain and enhance well-being. Students will recognise social and society influences on well-being and be given opportunities to take action to promote their own and others well-being. In delivering Health Education, Geraldine Primary School teachers will use a range of appropriate teaching strategies that engage students, while taking opportunities to integrate Health Education learning with other aspects of the New Zealand Curriculum.  (December 2023)

 

At Geraldine Primary School the Health Education programme includes the following: 

• Whānau time/tuakana teina
• Well-being/growth mindset
• PB4L values (caring, respectful, responsible, achieving)
• Sun safety
• Celebrating cultures and languages
• Healthy eating & nutrition
• Puberty Talks - Each year we run Puberty talks with our Year 5 and 6 students. The Public Health Nurses are experts at delivering this to our children. Parents involved will be given more information at the time.
